The Yeatman Hotel & Restaurant (Porto, Portugal)
Located in the heart of Porto, one of the most inspiring wine capitals in the world, the Yeatman Hotel and Restaurant serves the ultimate ‘fine dine and wine’ experience. Everything – from the rooms to the pool – is ‘wine-themed’. The cellars are home to one of the most impressive collections of Portuguese wines in Europe. The hotel has established partnerships with most of Portugal’s finest producers and partner wineries are also attributed to individual rooms and suites.
Pictures and objects provide insights into each winery’s unique history and add a discreet individual accent to each of the hotel’s guest room. Make sure to try the wine to which your room is named! They are all available in the hotel bar. The Yeatman’s construction resembles the Douro valley terraces and is the perfect spot for a visit to the historical Oporto, the Douro Valley or the old Port warehouses.
The location is a first asset of The Yeatman Hotel. Occupying a breath-taking position, overlooking the Douro River and the historic city centre of ‘Oporto’, stunning panoramic views are ensured from the rooms, the bar and the restaurant. The hotel is only a 5-minute walk from General Torres Station and a 10-minute walk from the Douro River. The famous Port cellars are only few houses away from this luxury hotel and restaurant. The architecture of the building allows every space in the complex to have the same breathtakingly postcard view over the city of Porto.
The wine experience is extended to the SPA with its programme of exclusive Caudalie Vinothérapie treatments. There is a large indoor pool and hot tub offering panoramic views of Oporto. The outdoor panoramic pool was built in a wine bottle shape and has stunning views over the city and a stylish pool lounge bar. The contemporary fully equipped gym offers high quality equipment and a resident personal trainer.
Each of the 83 spacious and bright rooms has its own elegant private balcony enjoying unforgettable city views. The 12 superb suites provide the highest level of luxury available in the city. All rooms are individually decorated in a classic style, discreetly themed with artifacts and pictures contributed by a well-known Portuguese wine producer. Large marble bathrooms are fitted to the highest hotel standard. Traditional louvered shutters can be opened to give each bathroom a stunning view of the city.
The Bacchus Suite, named after the Roman god of wine, is the jewel in The Yeatman’s crown, with its spacious design providing the most exclusive and private accommodation in the hotel. A round copper Jacuzzi features a freestanding fireplace to one-side and city views to the other, whilst the large rotating bed can be positioned to view one of two large TV screens, or to face the expansive views offered by a 6-meter floor to ceiling sliding doors. The furnished suite opens onto a large exterior terrace with a small fountain and deck beds. Beautiful!
The Yeatman restaurant overlooks the Douro river and delivers the city’s most inspiring dining experience. In an environment that mixes classic comfort with a spectacular view, Executive chef Ricardo Costa delivers a remarkable dining experience.
Ricardo’s dishes are sophisticated and creative, but always respect the best of Portuguese culinary tradition. High-quality Portuguese fresh ingredients and fish are interpreted and presented with a contemporary look. The restaurant gained two Michelin stars just after our visit (in November 2016).
In combination with the tasting menus, The Yeatman’s sommeliers offer interesting wine pairings, which allow guests to discover a play between matching and contrasting flavours. They take you on a journey through Portugal’s diverse and varied wine regions. The wine cellars of The Yeatman contain 25.000 bottles and bring together over 1000 different labels.
A special wine dinners program is organised every Thursday night, showcasing each time another wine producer. During these dinners the chef matches his flavourful dishes and desserts to the aromas of the selected wines. Each course is tailor-made for each wine.
