Hotel Kempinski & Restaurant Edvard (Vienna)

The hotel

Palais Hansen Kempinski is a 5 star hotel in the centre of Vienna that opened its doors in March 2013. It is one of the most luxurious hotels in the city, located on the famous Ringstraße. The building itself was built (as a hotel) for the World Exhibition in 1873.

Just as many of the buildings on theRingstraße, the hotel’s façade oozes colonial grandeur and neo-classicism.

Once inside, the stylish lobby lounge welcomes the guests. Here, hotel guests & non-guests gather for coffee, afternoon tea, a snack or an aperitif. On the right side of the lobby one can find the lobby bar, a beautiful, modern bar where the bartenders mix excellent cocktails.

Palais Hansen Kempinski boasts 152 rooms, of which 54 suites. All of them are spacious, ranging from 32 up to 68 square meters. And as in all Kempinski hotels, all of them are extremely luxurious.

State-of-the-art technology, such as electronic buttons to operate the shower and bathtub, or iPads, is present in all rooms. The design and decoration is neo-classic, with lots of marble, soft colours, comfortable fabrics and beautiful carpets. Some of the rooms offer great views on the historical buildings of the neighbourhood.

The hotel features a cosy city spa that is inspired by the four European seasons and decorated in the impressive colours of the Ottoman Empire. Its facilities include a modern gym, different saunas, a hydro pool and several treatment rooms. A great place to relax and unwind – or to start your day with some exercise.

The restaurant

The Palais Hansen Kempinski hotel would not be a Kempinski hotel as there was not a big focus on gastronomy. The main hotel restaurant is ‘Die Küche’, which is open for breakfast (weekends until 2pm!), lunch and dinner. During dinner, guests can enjoy show cooking and there are often special events.

Restaurant Edvard is the gastronomic restaurant of the hotel. The name Edvard is a tribute to the famous architect of Palais Hansen, Theophil Edvard Hansen. The interior of the 40 seat-restaurant has the same atmosphere as the rest of the hotel where traditional elements and contemporary design fuses with a modern lifestyle.

The chef & the food

Executive Chef Norman Etzold is responsible of the kitchen at Edvard. The young German chef gained experience at the Hilton in Mainz, the Kempinski Frankfurt, the Hyatt Regency Mainz and the Marsa Malaz Kempinski in Doha before moving to Vienna.

Norman uses seasonal products of supreme quality, combined with and inspired by Mediterranean traditions. His cuisine is light and balanced, modern and elegant. Please find some images from our tasting menu (March 2017) underneath:

Restaurant manager Christiane Rückerl has already proved her expertise in houses such as the famous “Steirereck” in Vienna, and takes care of the professional and personnel service. Sommelier Wolfgang Singer manages the wine pairing with the gourmet creations from the kitchen.

The Belgian Taste Buds Experience

At Palais Hansen Kempinski, tradition meets luxury on a premium location in the centre of Vienna. Its great restaurants, including the recommended gastronomic restaurant Edvard, ensure that you will not have to go out for lunch or dinner. Add a cosy city spa, and, of course, the beautiful and luxurious rooms, and you know this is the perfect base for your stay in the capital of Austria.
