M-eatery Revisit (Mechelen, Belgium)
M-eatery is a restaurant focused on quality grill food located in Mechelen, just in front of the NMBS train station. The restaurant is owned and managed by Pascal Van Himste en Mehdi Mathlouthi and they selected a young and dynamic team to cook and serve the guests.
The owners wanted to create a modern, no-nonsense restaurant where guests can discover a cocktail or a good glass of wine, with tasty snacks and dishes, and, of course, taste a delicious piece of grilled meat or seafood.
M-eatery is quite a big restaurant with a nice open kitchen, a beautiful glass cabinet with a Berkel meat slicer, and several dining compartments. The place boasts a modern interior with predominantly dark shades like black tables and black chairs. The interior was designed by Anneke Crauwels and Ariane Van Craen (ANA Architects) and nice touches such as a wall cabinet with wood logs provide warmth. For more information about the restaurant, please find our first review here.
We revisited M-eatery in April 2016 and enjoyed the following dishes:
Homemade Hüre with ox tongue, slow cooked pork neck, cream of horseradish and grilled langoustine
Veal tartare with tomato salsa and truffle mayonnaise
Javanais of duck liver terrine with bresaola and structures of pear
Gravlax with dill and salmon marinated in mustard, pumpernickel bread
Cote à l’os Scottona (dry aged for 4 weeks) with sauces and fries
Dame Blanche ‘new style’ (tip: make sure to sample one of the desserts as one of the owners his wife is a patissier)
The “Belgian Taste Buds” Experience
M-eatery remains a pleasant restaurant – and a must for meat lovers – when visiting the city of Mechelen. The concept is contemporary, the interior is cozy, the prices are correct, and the food tasty. See you soon!
