Botaniq – Botanical Delights (Leuven)
Restaurant Botaniq is a restaurant in Leuven, Belgium. The restaurant’s name is derived from the botanical garden nearby, and also in the kitchen this ‘botanical philosophy’ is processed in the dishes.
The use of herbs, vegetables and fruit demonstrates this philosophy. The restaurant is located in a regular house in an inconspicuous street, and only the restaurant signs reveal the building’s current purpose.
Peter Collen is the chef in restaurant Botaniq. After experience in De Karmeliet (Bruges) and several restaurants in Londen, he opened his own restaurant in the center of Leuven.
The chef prepares his dishes with respect for the ingredients, a focus on freshness and traditional flavors. Few surprising elements or innovative techniques are used, but quality remains at a steady level throughout the meal.
Sweetbread/crunchy bean salad/bacon
Filet Pur ‘Rungis’/artisjok/ salve of peas/girolles /pommes fondant
Cherry / Crisp / Sabayon
Coffee & sweets
Wines were of good quality, yet no remarkable wine discoveries were made.
Botaniq is a pleasant restaurant for those who seek to dine without taking too many risks. Dishes are prepared with honest and traditional tastes, but we felt this restaurant could reach higher levels if more risks are incorporated in the dishes and the ingredients choices.
