The Place

Restaurant 6 Zinnen is the new restaurant of bed and breakfast ‘6 Zinnen’ in Hasselt, province of Limburg, Belgium. In June 2013, the manager of the bed and breakfast chose Karoline Juvyns and Jan Wouters to run his restaurant, a motivated young couple who earned their stripes in restaurants such as Magis, Vous Le Vous, ‘t Zilte and Aan tafel bij Luc Bellings.

The kitchen and dining rooms are located on the ground floor of the mansion and are carefully decorated with modern art and light and red colors.

Karoline manages the service, while Jan takes care of the cooking. They work alone – which is quite impressive to say the least. After reading Be-Gusto’s review, we were excited to visit this place and we were not disappointed. Pleasantly surprised by the passion of this young couple, we concluded that this a restaurant to keep an eye on.


The Chef

Jan Wouters studied cooking school in Koksijde and gained experience in restaurants such as ‘t Zilte, Luc Bellings and Vous Le Vous. Today, the 27-year-old chef is clearly ready for his new challenge. Jan is not only (successfully) mastering the kitchen, but also helps with the reception and serves his own dishes with great passion at the table.


His charming girlfriend Karoline Juvyns completes the team at restaurant 6 Zinnen, serves guests in style, and takes care of the wines. A hard working team, indeed!


The Food

The chef cooks with respect for the nature and uses seasonal products. Pure flavors and simplicity are the key concepts in his kitchen. Do not expect ultra-innovative or extremely creative dishes, but go to the 6 zinnen for honest preparations focused on fresh ingredients and light, commonly known flavors.


Together with our friends from Shoot That Food, Be-Gusto and Le Gourmand Belge, we opted for the menu ‘100 % ons’, which is available in 3 (35€), 4 (44€) or 5 (53€) courses.

The Wines

Lady of the house Karoline proposed the house cocktail Pisco Sour to start with, an interesting choice! This Peruvian cocktail with Pisco is served with lime, sugar, a bitter and beaten egg white.



She also offers interesting wine pairing arrangements and does not disappoint in her choices. Prices are very correct with an 18€ arrangement for the 4-course menu.

The “Belgian Taste Buds” Experience

Restaurant 6 zinnen is a new culinary hotspot in Hasselt, and one to watch out for. We enjoyed the honest and pure flavors in the menu, the charming and motivated young duo and the no-nonsense dining philosophy.
