Restaurant “Kasteel Diependael” is established in a small eighteenth century castle in Elewijt, a town near Brussels. The place already served as a hunting/country manor and a hotel, and was transformed to a restaurant in 1989. The owners renovated it with modern elements and art while trying to keep the authentic feeling and allure. We felt this combination missed some warmth and charm.

The Place

Hertog Jan is a 3 Michelin star restaurant, situated in Sint Andries, near Bruges – one of Belgium’s most beautiful cities. This convenient location makes it perfect for a (gastronomical) weekend out. The restaurant was founded as an inn (a resting place between Bruges and Zevenkerken) and was later turned into a café, a bar, a brasserie, and finally into what it is today: one of the three 3 Michelin stars restaurants in Belgium. The residence is a typical West Flanders styled structure, situated on the (busy) road between Bruges and Torhout. However, the restaurant is planning to move to another location in the near future.

In De Wulf – The Flemish Noma? (Dranouter)



The Place

In de Wulf is one of those restaurant s you would never find if you don’t know the place. It is located in Dranouter, in “het Heuvelland” in West Flanders (near to the French border).  “Het Heuvelland” literally means “the land of hills”, and that’s exactly what it is: a region full of small, beautiful hills. There aren’t many big cities in this region, and people live mainly of farming and cultivating. This agricultural sphere is influencing the kitchen of “In de Wulf” in many ways, but more on that aspect later on.

The Place

Innesto is the restaurant of the domain ‘De Barrier’, located on the Grote Baan in Houthalen (5 minutes from the highway). Once inside the domain you leave the busyness of the big road behind you, to find a tranquil domain with a big garden, a small lake and the nice authentic premise where the restaurant is located.
You can also spend the night here, and the rooms are really worth the stay. The authentic feeling of the building is kept, while modernizing the comfort and the rooms are big, clean and romantic.
